If he was my everything, then what are you? The oxygen that I breathe- severely underappreciated, and when everything has abandoned you stay, ready to keep me alive, to keep my body afloat, to keep my heart beating.

If he was my sunshine, then what are you? The lantern that keeps me from tripping over the tangling roots and the snagging thorns, that lurk on the forest floor, ready to trip and rip and tear and snare.

If he was my happiness, then what are you? The laugh that comes after a long cry, when hot tears have scorched skin and the pain of being left to boil for so long that nothing remains except a dry pot, the ironic chuckle that comes from disbelief.

If he was my whole heart, then what are you? The part of my brain that understands logic but still chooses to feel in irrational spouts, this small piece of me is the reason I fall in love so easily and out so quickly, the switch that's located between the circuit breaker flip and the self destruction button.

If he was my future, then what are you? The unknown, the blind spot in my mirror that keeps me from ever changing lanes confidentially, the fog that reflects my bright lights, the sharp curves on unknown roads.

If he was anything to me, then why are you now my everything?
