Oh, my Dandelion Darling. Have you ever wondered why dandelions are so yellow? Why is it that not even the Sun, the goldfinch, or the turning leaves are able to compare? Well, God was working on a landscape. He was painting a small flower, one that was easily picked, that would be woven and worn on little girls’ heads like crowns fit for princesses, placed in the pockets of overalls, laid on the front porch rail for a mamma to find, bundled with other flowers to be given as a gift. He knew this one had to be special, it had to grow abundantly, like the snow thistle and quackgrass, it had to be bright, to capture all attention. When people would look at this little flower they would think of the little things that were to be appreciated. So, to make them grow everywhere he made them a weed, so that growth would never be a struggle for them.  He then decided to work with the brightest paint color on His palette. He dipped His brush into the yellow paint and went to work, making every petal more vibrant than the last. When He had finished, He gently pulled the dandelion from the canvas and in all places that were good, in all soils that would nourish, in all realms that supported life, He planted them. Soon there would be valleys of yellow that would not go unnoticed. The dandelion may be a weed, but a dandelion does not care what a human thinks, they continue to be all that they are and nothing more. You darling a dandelion. You are abundant and ever growing. You are pure. You are beautiful. You are no weed, you are just you. You have a story. You have depth. Just because you are not the towering oak, does not mean you aren’t just as important. The oak changes lives by falling and crushing. You will cause change when a little boy hands you to his crush. When someone on their last bit of hope sees your bright, happy petals shining back at them. When a lost poet sees you and finds their inspiration once more. When a soul wanders across you and takes a single moment to appreciate you for all that you are. A dandelion.
